Avoid M11 road closures by taking the train to Stansted Airport

People travelling to Stansted Airport from London are being advised to go by train, as an autumn of roadworks and road closures has just started.

Greater Anglia is suggesting that air travellers catch the Stansted Express as major roadworks on the M11 to Stansted Airport have just begun, leading to lengthy diversions for motorists.

The M11 is due to be closed at times due to major resurfacing works, which started this week and could continue for about six weeks.

The overnight closures – for three weeks in each direction - are due to take place between junction 7 for Harlow and junction 8 for Stansted airport.

Traffic will be re-routed onto a 35-minute diversion skirting Bishop’s Stortford and Harlow.

Martin Moran, Greater Anglia commercial and customer service director, said: “It’s much quicker and easier to catch the Stansted Express train from London to Stansted Airport.

“There are trains every 15 minutes throughout the day or every 30 minutes in the early morning and late evening and the journey only takes 47 minutes from central London.

“The train takes you right into the terminal, so there’s no faff with parking the car, catching a bus and walking to the terminal.

“It makes sense at any time of the year, but when there’s roadworks adding even more time to the journey, it’s seems the most obvious way to travel to and from the airport.”

“Your trip starts as soon as you step on board our trains – with plenty of leg room, tables, power sockets and free wifi – plus you know you’re doing your bit for the environment by choosing a greener way to travel.”

Ticket prices start at £9.25 with special offers including WebDuo which gives a third off for groups of three and four people travelling together or for tickets bought with a Railcard.

The Stansted Express calls at Liverpool Street, Tottenham Hale, with regular half hourly connections at Stratford.
